November 11th has always been of great importance to me. I am forever grateful for the sacrifices that men and women, better than me, have made in the name of freedom. Remembrance Day, in my opinion, should be a mandatory day off from everything. School and work. A day to reflect and give thanks for all that you have and for those whom you love. A day off, more so, than even Christmas. Christmas is too commercial and has all but lost it's true meaning, while Remembrance Day, (or Memorial Day, Veteren's Day, or whatever other day your country may designate to honour your freedom fighters), remains pure in its message.
I am reminded of what the friend of a friend had the balls to say last year in regards to Remembrance Day. He essentially called it a sham, because a Poppy was chosen to commemorate the occasion. He scoffed at how opium was derived from the Poppy seed and flower. He basically spit on the whole affair. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He was shooting his mouth off about a subject he knew very little about. I friggin' lost it on him. I yelled at him and tore him a new asshole. I doubt very much that he even learned anything from my lengthy tirade, or even took a moment in his day to look up any information on the subject rather than scan the internet for video games and porn.
ReplyDeleteTo sully the sacrifices that, not only my family and friends have made for this country, but what all of our forefathers lost, is a complete disgrace. He should be ashamed. But if for one fleeting moment, from that Remembrance Day on, if he thinks for a moment, reflecting on the passion I displayed for this subject, then perhaps my words haven't been lost in vain.
But that's just my opinion...
